It all comes down to personal taste, but I wanted to build something fun.

I lived in Caterham for 13 years, but they are like Honda bikes: everyone thinks they are THE one to have: so I don’t.
Also, when I researched the build, Caterham’s attitude discouraged home builds to keep up the ‘quality’ of the marque. They have since softened their relationship with potential customers.

DJ Sportscars make this, and another one of the 20 or so Seven type cars on sale in the UK. Called the Rush: it is no misnomer.

JBA Cars have been around since I rebuilt my first Triumph Herald in 1976, and they still build this, although the donor platform has moved with the times.

NG Cars were also around in the 70’s but are now owned by Findhorn cars. Their website won’t let ne download a picture, so you will have to go and look for yourself. If you know what an MG TC or TF looks like you will not be disappointed.

Marcos is a 70s marque that used to be prepared to sell you a kit, but too many owners built cars that went like stink and were mechanically sound, but did not have much in the way of interior build quality.
They now build serious sports cars for serious money.

Ginetta Cars were also around in the 70s, and the marque has also survived because they are such fun to race.
It is no longer possible to buy a Ginetta to build yourself, but many of the earlier kits survive. I nearly bought a G32 recently.

I ended up buying a Westfield, because they let you build the kit from a series of modules, and the owner’s club is so welcoming, whether you drive a Westfield or not. I also like the XI.
They have a solid link with the TVR Owners Club. I nearly bought a Chimaera recently as well.

I have also taken my Westie On the Track. It might not be obvious, but the track section in the photo is the Devil’s Elbow at Mallory Park in May 2006. My first Track Day, organised by the Westfield Sports Car Club.

Another kit I thought about building is the GTM Libra: A chap I worked with had built one and they go quite well. There was a Lamborghini Countach lookalike kicking around, but I shied away from that one.
