For the English speaking world, the fact that Good is very similar to God, and Evil is equally similar to Devil will not have escaped most people.
Good generally ties in with thoughts and actions that help us get along with each other in groups of various sizes, and Evil pretty much does the opposite. In recent years, this definition has been extended to the effects that our thoughts and actions have on the non-human inhabitants of our planet and the planet itself.
Where things fall down is when Good is associated with a particular interpretation of a religious text, and Evil becomes the antithesis of whatever happens to be ‘Good’. The Holy Books of all the major religions were written centuries ago when life was simpler, and they enshrine what was then considered correct behaviour into Holy Law.
Misanthropic scholars are able to divide the peoples of the world by the interpretation of these texts to justify the extermination of not only non- believers , but those who call God by the same name or follow the same Prophet. This sacrilege has been the bane of mankind since we came to recognise that a Higher Power exists.
Thankfully, most peoples of the World share a common view of what is right and proper that transcends religious boundaries. True Good and Evil are divorced from religious strictures and the custom and practice of individual nations.
