RAF pilots are given three cardinal rules: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.
The same rules apply to riding bikes and driving cars. The first priority is to keep it on the black stuff away from other vehicles, then you can worry about which bit of black stuff you should be on, before you even think of telling anyone when you will be home for dinner.
If there’s too much going on and you can’t do all three, stop talking and looking at the map and concentrate on the driving. Better to not know which turning to take and be late for dinner than to not notice the bend in time and be late of this life.
Being late of this life as a result of being late for dinner too many times and upsetting the cook is another matter. No amount of safe road craft can make up for poor life planning.
